The original game had a bug where the "Mothership level" would crash if you had more than 16MB of RAM (ironic, given modern machines). You must find the on the Internet Archive. Without this, your install will crash upon "July 4th" mission.

Verdict

- On the Archive page, click “DOWNLOAD OPTIONS” → ISO IMAGE (choose
ID4_Disc1.bin+.cue). - Get DOSBox from dosbox.com.
- Create a folder
C:\DOSGames\ID4→ place the.bin/.cuethere. - Run:
imgmount d "C:\DOSGames\ID4\ID4_Disc1.cue" -t cdrom d: install
Run Setup:
Open the virtual drive and try running SETUP.EXE . On the Archive page, click “DOWNLOAD OPTIONS” →
- It mimics the Windows 95 progress bar (the classic green blocks).
- It emulates the modem handshake sounds.
- It "downloads" text files from the old Fox servers (pulled from the Wayback Machine).
