1. Hardware: PC with physical RS-232 port or high-quality USB-to-RS232 adapter + Siemens PC-Adapter (6ES5 734-1BD20) for S5.
2. Connection: PLC (e.g., S5-115U) → PC-Adapter → COM1.
3. WinPCIN settings: Baud 9600, Parity Even, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, RTS/CTS flow control.
4. Download: Select “Send file” (to PLC) or “Receive file” (from PLC). The “exclusive” nature is automatic—WinPCIN locks the COM port.
5. File format: Use .S5D or .S5I for S5; for S7, convert using STEP 7 first.
