So you’re locked out of your Dahua DVR—or maybe you just finished setting it up and realized "admin/admin" isn't working like the old days. Here is the lowdown on getting back in and why things have changed. The "Big Three" Classics

forced password reset

Under GDPR compliance pressure and global cybersecurity mandates (such as the U.S. NDAA and FCC requirements), modern Dahua devices (firmware V4.0 and later, and specifically the "Smart" series) implemented a mechanism.

Warning:

This will erase all settings (network config, camera channels, recording schedules) but usually not the recorded video footage on the hard drive.

It's highly recommended to change the default password as soon as possible to prevent unauthorized access to your Dahua DVR. To change the password:

  1. Power off the DVR.
  2. Open the case (for desktop models) or locate the reset button on the back panel (for rack-mount units).
  3. Look for a small, tactile button labeled "Reset," "Default," or "RST."
  4. Press and hold the button using a paperclip or tweezers.
  5. While holding, power the DVR back on.
  6. Continue holding for 15–30 seconds until you hear a beep or see all LEDs flash.
  7. Release the button. The DVR has now reverted to factory defaults.
