Biomechanical Advantage: Variable vs. Constant Resistance

  1. Poor for lower body strength – Squats and deadlifts with bands rarely load the posterior chain as effectively as a barbell. ElastX addresses this with banded good mornings and glute bridges, but maximal strength development suffers.
  2. No eccentric overload – Bands provide less resistance during the lowering phase (since tension drops as the band shortens). Eccentric strength is crucial for hypertrophy and connective tissue remodeling.
  3. Learning curve – Stabilizing a band is harder than a dumbbell; bands can slip, snap, or create uneven tension if not anchored correctly.
